Cliff retired from professional baseball in 2010 after playing 15 years professionally with various organizations in the MLB, as well as spending 7 of those years overseas in S. Korea and Japan. He played both corner spots as well as the outfield.
Early Career Highlights:
1992-1995 – Played for three years at the University of Delaware
All-Conference as a Sophomore and Junior
Player of the Year his Junior year hitting .442/8/56. Lead the nation with 32 doubles and was 4th in average.
1995 – Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 13th round.
Professional Career Highlights:
1995 – Hudson Valley Renegades for short season in the New York Penn League. Ending the season with a .358 avg giving him the league batting title and league MVP.
1998 – AA Tulsa Drillers, Won Championship
1999 – AA All-Star Team Selection
00-01 – AAA Oklahoma Redhawks
May 30, 2001 – First Big League Call up
July 1, 2001 – First Big League hit with CO Rockies – Home run vs AZ Diamondbacks.
2003 – signed with Chicago White Sox AAA and batted .309/.371/.507 in 62 games.
July 2003 – signed with the Hyundai Unicorns in the South Korean League and helped lead them to the Korean Series Championship, batting .303/14/51 in 264 ABs. In the championship series, he had the highest all-time batting avg (.333) and RBI total (11) in their series history.
2004 – Led the KBO (Korean Baseball Organization) in Avg (.343), OBP (.468) and slugging (.608). He hit 33 home runs (1 shy of the leader), and had 105 RBIs for 3rd best, while drawing a staggering 114 walks. He led the Hyundai Unicorns back to the Korean Series, and they repeated as KBO Champions. He also received a Gold Glove that year and was selected to the All-Star team.
2005-2006 – signed in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes.
2007 – Signed back in S. Korea with Woori Heroes. .308/29/87 in 126 games. All Star Team Selection. Surgery after the 2007 season on his Achilles tendon.
2008 – Still in S. Korea batting .293/13/61 in 102 games but was limited to DH. All Star Team Selection. 2nd surgery after season in same place.
2009 – Still in S. Korea and batted .245/27/86, which was good enough for team highs in home runs and RBI’s. Another All Star Team Selection.
2010 – Edmonton Capitals, GBL – led the league in HR’s (23) and batted .383 with 90 RBIs in 76 games. MVP of the League.
He is now excited to focus on his sons’ sports and share his knowledge and love of the game with the kids at Oklahoma Fuel Athletics. He has an invaluable insight and perspective on the game with the unique ability to teach athletes how to play at higher levels, maximizing their potential.
